Following numerous teasers, Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps off its new GT3 challenger, ahead of its official premiere next week at the Geneva Motor Show.

The successor to the championship-winning SLS AMG GT3, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 is powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine taken from its predecessor, although further developed since the SLS’ debut nearly five years ago.

With a six-speed sequential gearbox, mounted in a transaxle configuration on the rear axle, it provides the second-generation GT car with optimum weight distribution.

It also features double-wishbone suspension and other weight-savings measures such as a carbon fiber seat pan.

“We are entering a hard-fought and hotly contested competitive environment with the new Mercedes-AMG GT3,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“The high technological standard and fair race rules are spurring us on to push to take pole position with our new customer racing car. You can only give credible proof of your ambition to lead if you’re beating the very best in the game.”

The car will make its debut in GT3 competition this year, prior to being shipped to customers at the end of 2015. Further details on the specific timeline are expected to be revealed shortly.
