David Russell and Roger Lago will start the Hampton Downs 101 from pole position, after Russell was fastest in the Top 10 Shootout.

Qualifying was determined by an average time over two sessions, one for each driver, with the Top 10 then fighting it out over a one-lap Shootout session.

That was topped by Russell in the JBS Australia Lamborghini, who ran fourth from last based on combined times but scorched to the top with a 1m30.806s.

Russell’s time was good enough to hold off George Miedecke in the Aston Martin by just over a tenth, he and father Andrew now set to start on the outside of the front row.

Supercars regular Michael Caruso made up two spots on he and Matt Simmons’s qualifying spot in the Shootout, the factory Nissan GT-R slotting into third, ahead of Chris Mies and Tony Bates in the Jamec Pen Audi.

Greg Murphy made a one spot improvement for he and Tony Quinn (Darrell Lea Aston) in the Shootout with the fifth best time, while Dom Storey and Peter Hackett plummeted from second to sixth after Storey’s Shootout lap in the Eggleston Mercedes.

John Martin fell even further in the Walkinshaw Porsche, he and Duvashen Padayachee going from P1 on combined times to P7 after the Shootout.

Marcus Marshall and Theo Koundouris will start eighth after Marshall made a small gain in the Supabarn Audi in the Shootout, endurance series leaders Grant Denyer and Nathan Morcom will start ninth in the Tekno McLaren, while Klark Quinn and ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett dropped down to 10th after drifting star Whiddett spun on his Shootout lap.

There were a couple of big names who missed out on a Shootout spot, with Steve Richards and Max Twigg the unlucky couple on the bubble after finishing 11th on combined times in the BMW Team SRM M6.

Garth Tander also missed out on a spot in the one-lap dash, he and Daniel Bilksi finishing up 12th in the Jamec Pem Audi.
