This weekend, the China GT Championship continues with round three from Beijing, as the racing programmes that receive technical support from Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific look to continue their strong starts to the 2018 campaign.
The upcoming round will mark the second visit to the Goldenport International Circuit this year, with the Porsche teams having completed a three-day pre-season test there, in which Team JRM went fastest.
Chris van der Drift and Li Chao will be back on board the #911 Porsche 911 GT3 R, after having victory snatched away from them in the last race at Zhejiang. They currently sit second in the GT3 drivers’ standings, just nine points off the leader, with Team JRM third in the Teams’ Championship.
The sister #991 car will also be back in action this weekend, with Min Heng and Li Jiaqi hoping to emulate their AM/AM victory at Zhejiang. The duo were also in the fight for a potential overall podium in the second race last time out, before a spin halted their chances.
In the GTC Class, R+ Racing return to field the #307 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Wang Tao, fresh off a pair of second-place finishes last time out, and former Porsche Carrera Cup Asia front-runner Zhang Dasheng, who joins the squad for this round.
Alexandre Gibot, Head of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, said: “It’s great to be back for the third round of the China GT Championship this weekend. We’ve enjoyed a promising start to the season with all of the Porsche entries, so it will be interesting to see how well they can perform in Beijing.
“Team JRM have looked very strong and were unlucky not to get their maiden victory last time out, but I’m sure they can hit back with a strong result here. R+ Racing have also started well, with Wang Tao doing an excellent job and Zhang Dasheng is sure to put in a strong performance on his return to the series.”
