Two traffic-stopping and era-correct Buick coupes with modern upgrades to make them more enjoyable to drive are early highlights of Shannons Sydney Winter Auction on Monday, August 29.

Built by the award-winning and internationally renowned painted and car customiser, Justin Hills of Hills & Co. Custom Auto Restoration in Taree, NSW, the black and silver 1955 Super 2-door pillarless coupe has been given a minor cosmetic upgrade to resemble a top-of-the-line Roadmaster, modelled after one of comedian Jay Leno’s own cars.

Styling modifications include the iconic four portholes down the front mudguards, while the hubcaps are ‘spinner style’ as per a traditional customs.

The 1949 Sedanette is a highly sought-after fastback body style, resplendent in bright candy apple red paint and sumptuous cream and red leather interior.

Both Buicks feature modern leather trim and Vintage Air air conditioning, as well as contemporary computer-controlled height-adjustable airbag suspension that allows smooth driving on-road and a lowered stance when parked reminiscent of traditional mild custom vehicles.

The 1949 Sedanette still features a stock 248-cid Fireball straight-eight and Dynaflow two-speed automatic transmission, maintaining an appealing link to its production days.
