Paul Dumbrell went to the top of the time sheets in the final practice session for the Dunlop Series this weekend at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, and eclipsed the standing practice lap record for the category.

The existing record – a 2min07.7175 – was set in 2008 by Steve Owen (who topped the Championship practice session), which Dumbrell cleared by over half a second.

Cameron Waters also gate-crashed Owen’s record, following Dumbrell by a 0.064sec margin.

Gary Jacobson was third best ahead of Ash Walsh – who enters the Wilson MedicOne Enduro sitting second in the series standings – and Andrew Jones.

The Kiwis stuck together again, with Chris Pither in fifth, followed by countrymen Ant Pedersen and Andre Heimgartner.

Todd Hazelwood and Aaren Russell completed the top ten.

The second practice session of the weekend saw Marcus Zukanovic have a close call down Conrod Staight.

With a tyre issue, the #71 entry left the circuit, travelling down the grass along Conrod Striaght at high speed and picking up a few signs on his way.

After entering the pits after the incident with a flat tyre, Zukanovic ended the session in 26th.

After his late call-up to co-drive with Aaron Tebb for the Wilson MedicOne Enduro, Fredrik Lestrup was 24th fastest while he adjusted to the V8 Supercar on his debut at the Mountain.

Stay tuned for the Dunlop Series qualifying session at 3.55pm for tomorrow’s maiden Wilson MedicOne Enduro.
