After topping the timesheet at the recent Sydney test day, Lockwood Racing’s Fabian Coulthard has set his sights on a strong result at this weekend’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

“I can’t wait to get the season started,” he said.

Last year with the new Car of the Future, the team showed plenty of potential on the streets of Adelaide but reliability cost Coulthard valuable points.

“We were fast last year but we had dramas with the brakes on the new car,” Coulthard said.

“We’ve had 12 months to work with it now so we’ve got that area of weakness ironed out so hopefully we can contend for podiums and race wins.”

Coulthard is confident the Lockwood Racing Commodore will have the speed on the streets of Adelaide and a says a good haul of points is critical to his championship campaign.

“It’s important to leave there with a good result,” he said.

“That’s a great building block for the rest of the season.”

Coulthard and the Lockwood Racing VF Commodore finished the year strongly and team owner Kim Jones says they’ve never been better placed for a championship challenge.

“Everything went to plan at the Sydney test and to end up at the top of the pile is a great thing,” he said.

“It’s full steam ahead and the goal is the championship.”

This year the Clipsal 500 features a new format with two 125 kilometre races on Saturday and a traditional 250 kilometre race on Sunday.

The Supercars hit the track for the first time on Friday at 10.15.
