Porsche’s 919 Hybrid Evo has broken the Nürburgring-Nordschleife lap record, Timo Bernhard setting an astonishing 5:19.55 lap of the 20.8km-long German circuit this morning.
Bernhard’s time eclipsed that of Stefan Bellof, who managed to set a 6:11.13 lap with a Porsche 956 C, a time which stood as the lap record for 35 years.
The Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo’s world tour is set to continue next month following its run at the ‘Ring. Next on its schedule is the Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 12 to 15) and the Festival of Porsche at Brands Hatch (September 2), ahead of its participation at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion in Laguna Seca, California (September 26 to 29). Porsche have though made it clear that the Nürburgring record will be the last record chased by the car in its current programme.
