Kiwi driver Jono Lester has headed Official Practice for the opening round of the Super Taikyu Endurance Series at Sportsland Sugo overnight, paired with Tatsuya Kataoka and Fariqe Hairuman in the #28 PETRONAS Syntium Team Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.

“Today was a colourful start to our 2013 season, but as always its great to finish at the top of the time sheets,” Lester said.

“Already our new driver line up has a good repor, and after a few early laps acclimatising to the GT3-spec Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 again, I felt strong in the latter part of the day.”

“In the last session in particular, all of us in #28 ran on very old tyres, and found the car to perform brilliantly on these. So, I’m thinking we have a great race car to work with for the 3 hour race on Sunday.”

“It’s still difficult to gauge where everyone is truly at. With 45 cars on track at once the chances of scoring a clear lap are very slim. One thing is for certain – the competition is very strong. Nissan in particular look to be formidable this year.”

Today’s schedule includes a three-part Qualifying session, for Sunday’s 3 Hour race which runs from 14:50pm – 17:50pm local time (GMT +9).
