Bamber withdraws from Championship lead in PCC Germany

Kiwi racing ace Earl Bamber wrapped-up his final race weekend in Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland (PCCD) in style after claiming second place and a win in Round 9 and 10 of the championship at the Red Bull Ring, Austria recently.

Bamber who has to bow out of PCCD early due to race clashes with Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) leaves the German championship on a high note as he is on top of the standings with a 17 points lead.

Bamber commented, “The first race of the weekend saw Nicki Thiim and I battle it out and I am glad to have finished second after such a great race. The following race saw us starting in P2 which is our highest starting position of the season and it turned out to be one of the best races I’ve had in my career!”

“I was pushing hard behind fellow Porsche Junior Alex Riberas and I finally managed to pass him on lap 12. He did not make it easy for me but it was definitely one of those races that I will surely remember in years to come.”

The Porsche International Motorsport Cup Scholar is now focused on his PCCA title defense where he is currently leading the championship eight points ahead of his closest rival. On top of that, he is also competing in the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and is second in the championship.

He added, “It is unfortunate that this will be my last race weekend in PCCD especially when I am on top of the championship but I will still be in Europe for the rest of the Supercup races. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Team 75 Bernhard for this amazing opportunity to compete in the championship and wish Tom Dillmann who will be taking my place all the best.”

Bamber is now back in his base in Malaysia where the next two Rounds of PCCA will take place at the Sepang International Circuit next weekend.

“It is great to be home and take a few days off before the next race. Sepang is somewhat like a home track for me as I am based in Kuala Lumpur and I am excited to race there again.”
