Jaxon Evans will join Julien Andlauer as a Porsche Junior next year, with the German manufacturer confirming the drivers for its sponsorship initiative for the 2019 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Evans, a graduate of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, will step up to a full-season program in the highly competitive international single-make series alongside Andlauer, who will return as a Junior for the second consecutive year.
It comes after a three-day selection process with 11 up-and-coming drivers at Paul Ricard earlier this month.
“After carefully analyzing the date from the shootout at Le Castellet in France, we chose Jaxon Evans,” said Head of Porsche Motorsport Junior Program Jennifer Biela-Moll.
“We are convinced that Jaxon and Julien have the talent to celebrate further successes at an international motorsport level.”
Andlauer and Evans both receive 225,000 Euros towards their Supercup campaign, with the Junior program also including coaching, race analysis, psychological training, individual fitness plans and media relations.
The 22-year-old Evans said he’s looking forward to following in the footsteps of other Australian/New Zealand-based drivers that have succeeded in Porsche’s driver development program, which includes two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Earl Bamber.
“Matt Campbell took this step in 2017 and his career has developed well,” Evans said. “I’m looking forward to this exciting new chapter in my life.”
Andlauer, who claimed GTE-Am class honors at Le Mans this year with Dempsey Proton Racing, will continue his dual FIA World Endurance Championship and Supercup program next year after finishing fourth in the single-make cup standings in 2018.
Thomas Preining, who claimed the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany title as a Porsche Junior, is expected to graduate to Young Professional status next year.
