Daniel Connor was the best finishing Kiwi karter at the opening round of Australia’s 2012/13 Rotax Pro Tour in Canberra over the weekend claiming fifth place in the premier 125cc Rotax Max Light class.
The teenager from Helensville north-west of Auckland was one of three Kiwis to cross the Tasman for the meeting, qualifying tenth quickest and coming back from a dnf in the first heat to finish third in the second, fifth in the third, 12th in the Pre-Final and fifth in the Final.
The other two Kiwi drivers who contested the meeting enjoyed mixed fortunes.
Aucklander Aarron Cunningham struggled in qualifying and the early heats before muscling his way through the 125cc Rotax Max Heavy field to finish 12th in both the Pre-Final and Final, while Niki Urwin from Tauranga qualified sixth in the DD2 Masters class and finished in the top six in two of the three heats only to slip back to 11th in the Pre-Final before failing to finish the Final.
