Drift racer ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett is set to be a major attraction at next month’s CRC Speedshow event at the ASB Showgrounds – both on and off the track.
Mad Mike is making his first appearance at the country’s largest annual automotive event, demonstrating his considerable skills on both the Saturday and Sunday of the event in the live Action Arena. Off track, however, he is also set to share some of the secrets and details which make him one of the world’s most exciting drivers at two half hour seminars to be held at the CRC Speedshow event.
Whiddett will host two seminars – ’30 Minutes With Mad Mike’ on both Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23. Each will be free to anyone attending the show and will be held in the ASB seminar rooms which are directly above the indoor exhibition halls. Organisers are confident both seminars will be well attended by enthusiastic and knowledgeable fans. They will present a unique opportunity for die-hard fans, show guests and anyone else interested in the drifting scene to hear the inside line on the sport from one of it’s most iconic drivers.
“It’s something new for CRC Speedshow and we are sure will be something fans of all forms of motorsport as well as drifting will be interested in coming along to see,” explained show organiser Ross Prevette.
“Mike has a phenomenal following and there is much that goes on that his followers and fans will not be that familiar with – car preparation, securing and keeping sponsorship arrangements, logistics and marketing of what is a full time business in a growing industry. This will be a chance to hear some of that inside line from Mike himself, and ask any burning questions they have.”
Mike himself is looking forward to the action in and out of the car, commenting: “I’m really looking forward to making some noise at the Greenlane CRC Speedshow and plucking some very lucky people out of the crowds to jump into the passenger seat of our BADBUL RX8 which is fresh out of the hills of Franshhoek Pass in Cape Town, South Africa for Conquer The Cape!
“Alongside that I am stoked to host 30 minutes with Mad Mike where I will run over the back ground of drifting, how I got into it and what exactly is involved in making magic happen behind the scenes. My career path was unlike a lot of professional drivers and I think is one which more late comers to motorsport can relate to. Looking forward to meeting everyone there – Cant wait!”
The show – which takes place at the ASB Showgrounds – opens its doors to the public for the weekend of July 22 and 23. As well as some of the finest car displays in the Southern hemisphere, there is also a packed schedule for the Live Action Arena which runs both days and a huge number of other indoor attractions such as hot rod reveals, RC racing and championship winning New Zealand racing cars.
