The FIA has confirmed the addition of an extra ‘European’ event in 2013, bringing the race total back up to 20. The German Grand Prix has been brought forward to July 7 as part of the reshuffle and, although Turkey’s Istanbul Park is situated on the Asian side of the Bosphorus, it is expected to claim the new slot on July 21.
With the planned New Jersey street race postponed until 2014 and a French event failing to get off the ground, the new season had been set to feature a reduced 19-race roster. However, native businessman Vural Ak has been working closely with Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone to finalise a long-term agreement
“The date for the 2013 Grand Prix of Germany has been moved to 7 July, and 21 July has been reserved for another F1 European event, subject to the approval of the relevant ASNs,” governing body the FIA confirmed on Wednesday.
Ecclestone travelled to Turkey for a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) this week, earlier outlining his intention to bring Formula 1 back to the country.
