New Zealand’s Mitch Evans has had a solid introduction to his testing in the GP2 car in Spain.
Evans’ test is part of the reward for winning this year’s GP3 title and the Kiwi is making the most of his chance to step up a level.
The 13 GP2 Series teams were mixing up testing at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona with new names featuring and some older names switching teams.
Evans was in one of Arden’s cars and the 18-year-old didn’t disappoint.
Evans got in 22 laps in the morning session and finished ninth among the 27 drivers with a best lap of 1:30.516.
That compared to the fastest time of 1:29.775 set by Luca Filippi (Scuderia Coloni).
In the afternoon session, Evans moved up a place to eight with a time of 1:30.973 set during his 42 laps.
The quickest driver in the afternoon session was Daniel de Jong (Scuderia Coloni) in 1.30.408.
Evans has another day of testing to push his claims.
