The #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 HYBRID will start tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps from pole position, after the provisional pole-winning sister #7 Toyota was penalsied for an incorrect declaration of fuel flow meter.
As a result, WEC debutant Fernando Alonso, Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi will start from pole, and the #7 car will start from the pit lane, a lap behind the field, after the stewards erased the 1:54.563 average time.
In turn, it means that an LMP1 privateer will start from the front row, Rebellion Racing’s #1 R-13 of Bruno Senna, Neel Jani and Andre Lotterer moving up to second on the grid due to the penalty.
Following the stewards decision, Toyota Gazoo Racing said in a statement: “The team accepts full responsibility for the error, which had no impact whatsoever on car performance. The fuel flow meter which was used in the #7 was fully homologated and calibrated.
“Team processes and procedures will be strengthened immediately to avoid any repeat of this unfortunate error.”
