TR Group V8 Festival Preview

So…you like cars?

If you like fast cars, and let’s face it who doesn’t…. then the weekend of November 1 and 2 at Hampton Downs will give an unrivalled early season opportunity to enjoy some of the best cars and some of the best drivers in this part of the world.

Want fast cars? The TR Group V8 Festival has the answer – with all of the categories that compete at the annual Supercar meeting at Pukekohe and much more besides…

Heading the bill at the meeting will be the awesome BNT NZ SuperTourers – New Zealand’s awesome home grown top tier V8 racing series which will see 14 equally matched 600 horsepower monsters slug it out over three endurance races in the second round of the endurance part of the series’ championship, the Waikato 400. These are the fastest tin tops in New Zealand.

Not enough? Well what about NZV8’s action-packed blend of TLX spec and TL spec racing machines for even more V8 racing action – Nissan, Toyota, Holden and Ford all go head to head and it’s also a chance to see some of the country’s up and coming V8 young guns take on the more experienced racers.

And if you like your V8s a little more ‘hardcore’ still, then you’ll not need to look any further than the UDC V8 Ute category – which pits the 1850kg, 400 horsepower V8 ute models form Holden and Ford in a dog fight – a dog fight currently being dominated by Australia ace Kris ‘Killa’ Walton’s Peters Motorsport Ford.

If that still doesn’t get you off your seat, then what about the extreme GTNZ classes – GT1/2 and NZGT? For the ultimate home grown specials, or amazing machines seeking a second life after other V8, endurance or sportscar racing series then look no further. With extreme prototype cars from Crawford in the USA along with extreme TransAms, rotaries, highly modified V8s and exotic Japanese turbo cars, this is a fast and fierce racing class.

If you like a bit of nostalgia then the ENZED Central Muscle Cars will tick your box – with Mustangs, Camaros and everything else from Australasia’s amazing muscle car history putting on another jaw-dropping and ear piercing battle.

And if it’s just all out action that’s your thing – then the new Ssangyong Ute series should keep you on the edge of your seat. Speed might not be their strong point – but entertainment and nose to tail action most certainly is!

If it’s high quality drivers you want to see then you need look no further – with no fewer than three Bathurst winners competing at the event – including this year’s winning co-driver Paul Morris, who races with Andre Heimgartner, four time winner Greg Murphy and Jason Bargwana. Add in the best of the country’s young talent in SuperTourers and names like John McIntyre, Angus Fogg and Craig Baird also set to race and the ingredients are there for the TR Group V8 Festival to be an absolute classic.

Race action will be complimented by on track demonstrations from a range of machinery, including Formula 5000 and NASCAR.
