A Fair Dinkum special Bathurst Livery for Gaunt

LIVERY changes are all the rage for this weekend’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and the Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing squad at Kelly Racing is no different.

Karl Reindler and Daniel Gaunt’s #11 Commodore has turned white for this weekend’s Mount Panorama classic, with ‘old school’ green racing stripes added to the appearance of the team’s new-look challenger.

“There’s nothing more Fair Dinkum than the passion that V8 fans have for Bathurst,” says Nathan Caines, Australian Business Manager, Fair Dinkum Sheds.

“Motoring enthusiasts keep their prized motoring possessions, livelihood and hobbies in Fair Dinkum Sheds and garages around Australia – and our passion for ‘real sheds with real value’ is backed up by having sold over 150,000 sheds, barns and garages nationally over the past 18 years.

“We’re excited to see this young team hit the track in an old style livery and are looking forward to the big race on Sunday.”

Both drivers have 100 percent finishing records in the Bathurst endurance classic with Reindler finishing four times from as many starts and Gaunt twice.

But for lead driver Reindler, his favourite memory of the race remains last year – and it wasn’t even in the race itself!

“Mine was during practice in 2010,” he says.

“It was my first year at the Mountain as a lead driver and the car was feeling great, giving me plenty of confidence which you need around a daunting track like this!’

“We’d worked on the car and it was time to throw a set of green tyres at it. Everyone talks about feeling the ‘flow’ around Bathurst; I had this, the car was hooked up, I had clear track in front of me and was in the zone. The lap felt great and I looked down at the dash to see a time of 2m07s – this was one of the most rewarding laps I’ve ever had around any circuit, and my favorite moment around Bathurst.”

Gaunt, who will race in the Porsche Carrera Cup at Bathurst in addition to his commitments with the Fair Dinkum Sheds Commodore squad, can’t go past his Kiwi countryman Greg Murphy’s pole-winning lap in 2003 as his favourite Bathurst moment.

“My most memorable moment would have to be from 2003, standing at the top of the hill watching the Top 10 Shootout!”

“It was pretty incredible to see Murph’s lap from up the top of the Mountain. Watching the video on YouTube still sends shivers down the spine. It’s pretty cool to be driving in the same team as him now.”

In addition to sponsoring a car in the V8 Supercars Championship, Fair Dinkum Sheds are also the major sponsor of the Australian Men’s Sheds Association across Australia, a cause that encourages men to learn and share skills whilst having the kind of social interaction that helps address other problems such as social isolation and other men’s health issues.
