Will Davison has become the fifth driver to claim a race win at the Reid Park street circuit after starting second on the grid at the Sucrogen Townsville 400. And his Pepsi Max Crew FPR teammate Mark Winterbottom followed him home for a 1-2 to the blue oval team.

Fabian Coulthard in his Lockwood Racing Commodore also managed to get on the podium.

The first refueling race since the first event of the year, the Clipsal 500, the Sucrogen Townsville 400 saw drivers complete a 200km, 70-lap race today and tomorrow, having to use both soft and hard compound Dunlop tyres.

Interestingly Craig Lowndes was the only driver to start on soft tyres, which helped him recover from qualifying 12th – he made up eight positions and led a large portion of the race.

After Lowndes in fourth, the top 10 was Jason Bright, James Courtney, Jamie Whincup – who started 16th – Garth Tander, Alex Davison and Chaz Mostert.

David Reynolds was the only FPR car to finish outside of the top 10 – he was 11th.

Shane van Gisbergen, who started on ARMOR ALL Pole Position, had his day turn sour after being handed a pit lane penalty after a stop gone bad. He also had to revisit the pits to top up his fuel, and finished in 17th.

Whincup continues to lead the Championship from Lowndes, with a 135 point buffer. Coming into the event, Whincup had a 159 point lead.
