New Zealand race driver Jonny Reid has been confirmed as Tony D’Alberto’s co-driver for the three V8 Supercars endurance races this year.

Reid will drive the #3 Team HIFLEX Holden Commodore VF alongside D’Alberto at the Sandown 500, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600.

TDR is thrilled to secure the services of Reid, who has an excellent motor racing resume.

“Jonny is a quality, professional race driver and we are very pleased to have him in our team,” D’Alberto said.

“You only have to look at his resume to see that he is one of the best co-drivers. He has done a lot of racing around the world and he has been very competitive in everything he has been in.

“After starting the year with DJR, Jonny is keen to get back in a V8 Supercar and show what he can do. He knows we’ve signed him to do a specific job for us, but at the same time, he really wants to put some solid runs on the board.

“Jonny will get his first drive in our car on Friday (tomorrow), and it won’t take him long to get up to speed. He has had experience in Car of the Future. And I can’t see our car being too different to what he has already driven.”

Reid has competed in many different categories across the globe. After winning the New Zealand Formula Ford Championship, he went on to race in Japanese Formula 3, A1 Grand Prix, Indy Lights, Carrera Cup and V8 SuperTouring in New Zealand.

Reid made his Bathurst 1000 debut as a 19-year-old in 2003 but had to wait until last year for his second start in ‘The Great Race’.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I can’t thank TDR enough,” Reid said.

“I’m totally ready to give this 100 percent. It’s a really exciting opportunity. TDR is a good, strong team with great equipment and the right attitude.

“Tony has showed some really promising speed of late, so I’m joining them at the right time. It’s an exciting adventure to be a part of.

“I get to drive the Commodore for the first time tomorrow at Queensland Raceway, and that’s going to be all about getting up to speed, focusing on learning the new car and adapting to it.

“I’m really amped and really upbeat. It’s a great opportunity to show what I can do.”

Reid will get three opportunities to test D’Alberto’s HIFLEX Commodore, starting this weekend at Queensland Raceway in Friday’s endurance driver session. He will get another two drives at Winton Raceway – one in the event’s endurance driver session, plus a dedicated test.

Team owner Al D’Alberto said the team was confident Reid would be up to speed by the time the endurance races came around.

“When we were looking for an endurance driver at the start of the year – Jonny was on our list, but to his credit, he was picked to drive with Dick Johnson Racing,” Al said.

“As soon as we realised that we were going to need a change in our endurance line-up, Jonny was high on our list and we’re glad to have secured his services for Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast.”

While the team previously announced Nick Percat as D’Alberto’s co-driver, it was recently confirmed Percat would be partnering Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander.
