Loic Duval will not be allowed to take part in this weekend’s Le Mans 24 Hours after crashing heavily in his Audi R18 e-tron quattro during practice.
Duval escaped from the accident, in which the Audi became airborne in the Porsche Curves and slammed into a debris fence, with only cuts to his shoulder and leg, but doctors have decided that he should not take part in the race after tests at a hospital in Le Mans.
Audi has recalled reserve driver Marc Gene from the Jota Zytek LMP2 team to drive alongside Tom Kristensen and Lucas di Grassi in the #1 R18, which is being rebuilt around a new monocoque for Thursday’s pair of two-hour qualifying sessions.
The Audi Sport Team Joest squad will work around the clock in two shifts to build up a new car.
Gene’s place in Jota’s Zytek-Nissan Z11SN alongside Harry Tincknell and Simon Dolan will be taken by Oliver Turvey, who raced for the team in last year’s European Le Mans Series.
