Porsche has confirmed that it will enter a third 919 Hybrid in next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will include an increased effort for the FIA WEC Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps as well.
The German manufacturer has yet to reveal the lineup for the additional entry, although it previously announced that all six of its full-season drivers from this year will return in the entire-eight round FIA WEC season next year.
The third LMP1 entry will also contest the second round of the season at Spa, as a warmup to the twice-around-the-clock French endurance classic.
“In 2014 we have been competitive immediately with the most complex and innovative race car Porsche has built so far,” said Wolfgang Hatz, member of the board of Porsche’s R&D.
“To date we have achieved five podium places, three pole positions and two record laps, in Shanghai and Bahrain. These are outstanding results.
“But this program doesn’t just produce success on race tracks, but also on the engineering side. The target is the highest performance with maximized efficiency in ever growing dimensions. This is why we will take on the challenge with three Porsche 919 Hybrids in 2015.”
Porsche enters this weekend’s FIA WEC season-ending Six Hours of Sao Paulo looking for its first victory in the LMP1 class.
