Young Kiwi karter Marcus Armstrong continues to impress in Europe with another heat win and sixth in the Junior Final at the third round of this year’s Rotax Max Euro Challenge in Spain over the weekend.

The 13-year-old who drives an Alonso kart for the UK-based Dan Holland Racing team, was again one of the pace-setters at the meeting, being first in his qualifying group (J1) and third overall before winning his first heat, then finishing fifth but setting the fastest race lap in his second and sixth in his third to be ranked third out of the 42-strong field heading into the Pre-Final and Final.

He then went on to finish third in the Pre-Final and sixth in the Final, both races won by his Dan Holland Racing teammate, British driver Dave Wooder, with top local driver Marta Garcia (MGL Racing/Zanardi Kart) second in each race.

The result sees Armstrong move from 15th to ninth in the overall class series points standings with one round – the final at Salbris in France – yet to go.

As he headed to the airport for the long trip home Armstrong said of his weekend; “Finals day went well (considering) that it is very tough to be at the front and stay at the front with all the contact that goes on. Next time (in France) we will look to improve the result again.”

Armstrong will be back home in Christchurch tomorrow (July 23) with his next big meeting here the fifth round of the Rotax Max Challenge New Zealand at Hastings over the August 16/17 weekend. He then heads back to Europe for the final round of the 2014 Rotax Max Euro Challenge between September 01 and 07.
