New Zealand champ Daniel Kinsman had a weekend to forget at the latest round of Australia’s Rotax Max Challenge Pro Tour at Dubbo in inland New South Wales.
Kinsman qualified seventh in the premier Rotax Light class but after crossing the finish line 12th in the first heat and ninth in the second, the torrential rain that swept the inland New South Wales track on Saturday finally got too much for his kart’s engine and he was forced to retire from the third when it stopped and would not re-start.
Better weather conditions on Sunday saw the young Kiwi work his way from 15th to eighth in the Pre-Final – setting the third quickest race lap in the process – but in the Final an incident early on the first lap meant he didn’t get past the first corner.
Fellow Kiwis, sisters Madeline and Ashleigh Stewart from Wellington, enjoyed a better run in the Junior Trophy class. Though the unseasonably cold and wet conditions made the weekend one to endure rather than enjoy.
Madeline qualified sixth and carding a 12-9-6 run through the heats before finishing ninth in both the Pre-Final while Ashleigh qualified 15th and got as high as 12th in the heats before finishing 11th in the Pre-Final and 12th in the Final.
The weekend’s round was the third of seven with the next at Lithgow in the Blue Mountains over the April 12-13 weekend.
