Jimmy Eriksson claimed his maiden GP3 pole position during Saturday morning’s qualifying session for the opening race of the Silverstone weekend.
The session was halted in its early stages after Trident’s Mitch Gilbert and Hilmer’s Sebastian Balthasar collided along the Hangar Straight, causing terminal damage to both of their cars.
When the action resumed, the rain eased, with numerous drivers taking turns at the top of the timesheets as the track surface began to dry up.
With five minutes left on the clock, Carlin driver Lynn surged a second clear of the field, but Koiranen GP’s Eriksson went faster moments later with a 2:05.322.
ART team-mates Marvin Kirchhöfer and Dino Zamparelli locked out the second row of the grid, ahead of Arden’s Jann Mardenborough and Carlin’s Emil Bernstorff.
Status GP drivers Richie Stanaway and Nick Yelloly had controlled proceedings shortly after the stoppage, but dropped to seventh and eighth amid rivals’ improvements.
Hilmer’s Riccardo Agostini and the final Status machine of Alfonso Celis, Jr. rounded out the top 10.
