Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone says he has doubts over the provisional 2014 calendar, suggesting that the Mexican and New Jersey races will miss the final cut.
In September, governing body the FIA issued a draft 22-race roster, marking Mexico, New Jersey and Korea as provisional events. But speaking at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ecclestone said he expects the former two events to be removed.
“What’s in the calendar? 22. That’s what’s in the current calendar,” said Ecclestone. “Until the calendar is really finalised, I don’t [expect 22]. I have personal doubts.”
When asked about New Jersey, Ecclestone said: “I doubt that it’s going to happen. It’s not definite if it will or it won’t but I doubt it.” The 83-year-old then added of Mexico: “Probably not. Wait until the World Council meetings when the calendar will be fixed.”
The calendar will be finalised by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) later this year.
