The FIA and F1’s engine manufacturers have suggested looking at custom exhausts to improve the sound of the sport’s new turbocharged V6 engines after meeting to discuss plans at the Chinese Grand Prix.
All parties agreed that a modified exhaust outlet would be the only feasible way of modifying noise levels at future races, with one engine manufacturer reporting positive results after trialling a concept on its test bed.
Further discussions over the matter are due to take place between the governing body and manufacturers at next month’s Spanish Grand Prix, following which new exhaust outlets could be tested at the post-race test.
