Life’s pretty busy for Andrew Stroud – he’s a father of 10, it fills the hours each day with relative ease.

Given Stroud has a small army of a family it was little surprise four years ago the accomplished motorbike rider stepped away from competing.

He had won a remarkable nine New Zealand superbike titles, he competed in 41 World Superbike races, 20 FIM 500 GP races four Suzuka 8 Hour races, one Isle of Man race and three 24 Hour World Endurance races.

Stroud walked away from the sport with an impressive CV following a career which stretched back to 1988.

However four years after calling time on his days competing, the now 48-year-old is back. He is once again a fixture in the New Zealand Superbike Series.

Stroud is not content with what he has already achieved, he wants more. The itch returned for Stroud when he was following his teenage son Jacob who is competing in the 250cc series.

The Waikato rider has the No 10 on his bike, an acknowledgement to his 10 children and also a reminder the desire is national title No 10.

The New Zealand motorsport stalwart will lineup at Invercargill’s Teretonga Park this weekend in round two of the New Zealand Superbike Championship.

Stroud highlighted last weekend that at age 48 he hadn’t lost his completive edge when he took part in round one of the national series at Christchurch’s Ruapuna Park.

He finished fourth after dropping to 15th on the opening lap because of an electrical issue. Everything going to plan this weekend he should feature prominently at Teretonga Park, and in the process providing a treat for Southland road bike enthusiasts.

Sloan Frost leads the series heading into the Teretonga Park round after he stamped his authority on the New Zealand Superbike Championship during the opening round at Christchurch’s Ruapuna Park last the weekend.

It was three wins from three races for Sloan, including the New Zealand Grand Prix title for the Wellington rider.

Canterbury’s John Ross (Suzuki GSX 100) chased hard, but had to settle for second in the Grand Prix.

Fellow Cantabrian James Smith (Honda CB 1000 RR SP) was third.

Riders tested their bikes on Friday in wet and difficult conditions at Teretonga. Qualifying and some racing to be held on Saturday before a full day racing on Sunday.

Showers are forecast for the weekend is likely to test the riders skills.

Southland’s Jeremy Holmes will lineup in the 600cc class and had targeted a 59sec lap around Teretonga Park this weekend, however wet weather could halt his chances.

The next round of the national series will be held at Levels in Timaru next weekend.

For Southland motorsport fans attention will switch from bikes to the cars when the Toyota Racing Series comes to Teretonga Park next weekend.
