Porsche Motorsport in Germany is offering one talented youngster from the Porsche City Index Carrera Cup Australia championship the ultimate motorsport opportunity.
The new international young driver programme will see a talented racer from each of Porsche’s seven regional Carrera Cup championships compete for the ultimate prize – a full-time drive in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
As part of the position in Porsche signature one-make category, which is a support category for the Formula 1™ World Championship, Porsche will cover the majority of the 2013 season’s budget in addition to providing long-term training and support from the Porsche Junior drivers programme.
Porsche will put nominated drivers to the test later in the year. Drivers will compete on the race track under identical conditions, displaying their ability to turn in fast lap times while demonstrating technical understanding and analytical skills in finding a proper set-up for the 450 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
Each nominated driver must be aged 26 or younger and compete full-time in their respective Porsche one-make series, leaving two talented Carrera Cup Australia youngsters eligible for the initiative – New Zealander Andre Heimgartner (17) and Australian Nick Foster (20).
The decision on who will represent the Australian championship will be made by Porsche Cars Australia after the penultimate 2012 Carrera Cup round on the Gold Coast on October 21, 2012.
In addition to the Carrera Cup Australia nomination, talented drivers from Porsche Carrera Cups in Asia, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and Scandinavia will also be included in the talent search.
Porsche Motorsport in Germany can also select up to an additional two exceptionally talented drivers from the rest of their one-make race series. With this added element, Porsche is extending one of the most comprehensive and universal promotion programmes for new driver talent in the automotive industry.
