The winners of the Vortex ROK classes at the recent Bayley’s WPKA Goldstar Series, Ryan Wood from Wellington and Louis Sharp from Christchurch, will be in Melbourne this weekend, taking up their prizes.

As part of a concerted effort to raise both the profile and prestige of the long-running, lower North Island-based inter-club kart Goldstar series, the organising club, the Wellington Provincial Karting Association, got together with sponsors in and outside of the industry to put together a package of awards and prizes that would put the series on the map.

As part of that drive Maurice Frost from Taranaki’s Supreme Kart Services, Brendon Hart from Manawatu Toyota, and the WPKA put up entry to a major kart race meeting in Australia for the winners of the Cadet ROK and Vortex Mini ROK classes.

Those winners were diminutive Christchurch nine-year-old Louis Sharp (Cadet ROK), and 12-year-old Wellington driver Ryan Wood (Vortex Mini ROK).

This weekend they will contest the 31st annual City of Melbourne titles meeting at the Todd Rd circuit at Port Melbourne in Tony Kart karts.
