Polo GTI wins overall annual mega performance car test

Volkswagen’s most affordable hot hatch, the Polo GTI, has reclaimed the title of MOTOR Magazine’s Bang For Your Bucks Champion for a third time, beating a field of high performance competitors from both ends of the pricing and output spectrum.

MOTOR’s judges said: “The manual has lots of grunt, the chassis is really polished and it’s just an all-round great little car.

“We’ve held this event basically every year since 1994 and to be crowned Australia’s best sports car under $100,000 you need to be competitive on the racetrack and competitively priced. The new Polo GTI is both those things, which is why it beat 19 other fantastic cars to be our 2016 Bang For Your Bucks winner.”

Volkswagen Group Managing Director, Mr. Michael Bartsch said: “We couldn’t be more pleased with our most affordable performance car winning this prestigious industry award, one chosen by those in the know.

“Volkswagen makes the best affordable sporting cars available. Polo GTI proves that a performance pedigree doesn’t have to come at a premium price.”

This is the third time the Polo GTI has won MOTOR’s Bang For Your Bucks, first in 2011 and then in 2012. In 2010, Volkswagen claimed victory with the Golf GTI.

The upgraded Polo GTI was launched in Australia in 2015 with an updated 1.8-litre turbo engine technology and the return of a manual transmission. Later that year saw the addition of standard Sport Select suspension that extended the pocket rocket’s dynamic capability.
