Jono Lester and Fastway Racing kicked off 2013 with victory in the opening round of the NZ Endurance Championship at Manfeild.
Lester and co-driver Simon Ellingham pilot the #9 Fastway Porsche to pole position and a comfortable win in the 3 hour race held in sunny, warm conditions at the 3.03km Manawatu circuit.
“The event was a good hit out to start the year for me and it was great to share in Fastway Racing’s first victory as a team. It was also the perfect 21st present for my co driver Simon who continues to improve in speed and confidence,” Lester said.
When the main threat of the Cooper’s Ford GT40 succumbed to car trouble at the mid-way point, Lester – who completed the latter 1h 45m period of the race – worked on tyre and fuel conservation to gather important data for the team moving forward.
“The race was also a valuable test for us and we are happy with what we came away with.
“As a two round championship, taking the win is the best possible start and we look forward to trying to wrap the series up at Taupo.”
The second and final round takes place at the Taupo Motorsport Park on the 9th of March, in support of the NZV8s and the NZ Race Champs.
