Spectators who purchase their ticket to the Highlands Festival of Speed before 20 January 2016 are in with a chance to win a spectacular aerobatic flight flying over the event with top pilot Ivan Krippner.
Krippner, a multi-time national aerobatic champion, will take the lucky ticket purchaser for a 15-minute flight over Highlands Motorsport Park on Sunday 31 January, the second day of the two-day Highlands Festival of Speed event.
This year’s Highlands Festival of Speed is set to feature fantastic racing from the mighty ENZED Central Muscle Cars, Pre 65s and Highlands’ own modern and nostalgic classics, and historic saloons and single-seater classes for a weekend’s worth of classic racing action and family-friendly entertainment.
The special aerobatic flight will see the winner strapped securely into Krippner’s highly-responsive, two-seater Yakovlev Yak-52 aircraft before taking off to climb to 3,000 feet over the park and savour the unique experience of a series of loops, rolls and other aerial stunts during the flight.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer one lucky ticket purchaser this amazing opportunity,” says Josie Spillane, Highlands’ chief operating officer. “All regular price tickets purchased via TicketDirect or from the Highlands office before 20 January will see the purchaser automatically put in the draw to win this great prize. Terms and conditions will apply, such as the prize winner must be 18 years of age or older. The winner will be chosen at random and be notified by 25 January. Please see the Highlands Festival of Speed event page on www.highlands.co.nz for full terms and conditions.
Krippner will also be flying his Midget Mustang to create a stunning aerobatic display for the Highlands Festival of Speed spectators on Saturday.
“The Midget Mustang is a Formula 1 race plane designed for air racing,” Krippner says. “This one was hand-built back in 1975 and is powered by a 200 cubic inch Rolls Royce engine, the RR 0-200A producing 100hp. It has a single point fuel injection and burns 20 litres per hour at a level speed of 250 km/h, and will reach speeds of up to 400 km/h in a dive.”
At least 30 ENZED Central Muscle Cars are expected at this year’s Highlands Festival of Speed which will also feature great kids’ activities, fantastic food and refreshment stalls and free grid and pitlane walks. Highlands also lays on free buses to and from Cromwell as well as the Highlands bus which takes spectators around the circuit to the different viewing areas and the popular Jurassic safari park and adventure playground. The Festival of Speed vehicle show stars treasured cars, motorcycles, boats and caravans from across the eras.
“The Highlands Festival of Speed is old school racing at its best, all set at New Zealand’s finest motorsport facility – Highlands Motorsport Park!” says Ms Spillane. “Get your tickets now to enjoy a great day out with family and friends.”
