Motorsport all-rounder Clark Proctor joins the lineup at this year’s New Zealand Clubsport Championship in Waimate.
Waimate Motorsport spokesman Rob Aikman confirmed Proctor’s entry this week with Proctor adding he was keen to contest the championship in his Nissan-powered MK1 Escort.
Proctor said he had reduced the horsepower in his car from 650hp to a more controllable 400hp for the three events in the championship.
Aikman said entries had been coming in from the North Island.
“We have also received a lot of entries from the North Island, more than we have got for the Waimate 50 series which is just great.”
Planning is scheduled to take place with the trustees of the Waimate Racecourse to approve final layout plans for the event, while neighbours of the Tara Hills hill-climb are helping with preparation of the course.
The success of the Waimate 50 attracted the attention of Motorsport New Zealand, with organisers of the Waimate 50 approached by the sanctioning body.
It is a first for the town, with up to 50 vehicles expected on March 8 and 9 for two days of grass-roots racing.
The championship consists of three events: a grasshana, an autocross and a hill climb. The grasshana and autocross events will be held at the Waimate Racecourse and consist of a series of marked courses.
The hill climb will be held about 15 minutes out of Waimate, around the Tara Hills.
For those entering all three events, there is a chance to win the prestigious title of New Zealand Clubsport Championship, among other prizes.
The Waimate 50 returned in 2010 after an 11-year hiatus.
