Ash Blewett has one hand on the trophy in the Toyota Finance 86 Championship with victory in the first race today at Manfeild.
The championship leader swept into the lead at race start and was never challenged, leader John Penny and Callum Quin battling throughout the race for second place.
“John had better speed than me in the faster parts of the track but I was able to control the race and keep my lead while he and Callum fought it out,” said Blewett.
In the later part of the race Quin took second place, Penny struggling with a gearshifting issue out of the hairpin.
“I’m pretty happy with our pace and second place is a good top-up of points for the championship but there’s more to do to secure our position,” he said.
The second race of the weekend is at 11:22 tomorrow morning. Ash Blewett drawing a number eight marble to reverse the first four rows of the grid, putting rookie Jacob Smith on pole with Reid Harker alongside.
