Evans and Lancaster penalised for GP2 incidents

Jon Lancaster and Mitch Evans have been given grid penalties for causing collisions in the Abu Dhabi GP2 feature race.

Lancaster’s incident was the most unnerving, as he bounced over a chicane kerb while trying to pass Tom Dillmann on the opening lap.

The Briton’s Hilmer car landed atop the side of Dillmann’s Russian Time Dallara, briefly wedging the Frenchman into his cockpit as Lancaster came to rest with his front wing on Dillmann’s helmet.

Arden’s Evans retired after clashing with Sergio Canamasas at the final corner and sending the Caterham driver into a spin.

Both incidents caused safety car periods.

As Lancaster was listed as the first retirement, his five-place grid penalty will make no difference to his starting position in Sunday’s sprint race. Evans will now join him on the back row.

Stefano Coletti was given a 30-second time penalty in lieu of a drive-through as a punishment for a late collision with Daniel de Jong.

The decision means the long-time title contender swaps places with de Jong and is classified 20th rather than 19th.
