Red Bull Formula 1 junior Pierre Gasly led the way on the second day of GP2 testing at Barcelona, for series newcomer Prema Powerteam.
Gasly was fastest in the afternoon session with a time of 1m27.703s, the only driver to improve after the lunchbreak having opted for a late run on the soft tyres.
The Frenchman’s effort was 1.076 seconds faster than Racing Engineering’s Jordan King in the session, but just 0.268s up on Sergey Sirotkin for the day.
ART Grand Prix driver Sirotkin was the fastest driver of the morning, having set the pace on Wednesday, and finished Thursday second overall.
King finished up third, with his 1m28.094s lap set in the morning, ahead of team-mate Norman Nato.
Russian Time’s Raffaele Marciello was fifth, ahead of the team’s former driver Mitch Evans, now with Campos.
On the day it announced it was leaving Formula V8 3.5 to focus on GP2, Carlin was seventh and eighth with Rene Binder and Marvin Kirchhofer.
The test concludes on Friday.
