Belgium’s Stoffel Vandoorne grabbed pole position for the GP2 Feature Race in his home country.
The ART driver delivered a 1:56.839 in the closing stages of Friday afternoon’s qualifying session at Spa-Francorchamps to eclipse DAMS rival and championship leader Jolyon Palmer by 0.018 seconds.
Mitch Evans was two tenths further back in third, with Raffaele Marciello completing the second row.
Johnny Cecotto Jr. and Julián Leal were next up, although the latter, who set the pace in practice, was denied a shot at pole position when Carlin team-mate Felipe Nasr baulked him at the final chicane on his fastest lap.
Nasr himself endured a torrid session on his way to 11th, but he could start even lower if a penalty is applied.
Lazarus driver Nathanaël Berthon carried over his strong Hungaroring form to qualify seventh, while Rapax’s Simon Trummer, MP Motorsport’s Marco Sørensen and the DAMS of Stéphane Richelmi completed the top 10.
