Britain’s Alex Lynn claimed his second win in the Formula 3 European Championship after leading all the way in race two at the Norisring.
Lynn got the jump at the start on polesitting team-mate Raffaele Marciello, who nearly stalled his car as he dumped the clutch, and led all the way from there on.
Marciello tried a desperate lunge to the outside on the sister Prema Powerteam Dallara-Mercedes into the first turn, but the Italian ran wide and was demoted further by Felix Rosenqvist.
He then went wide at the Esses, allowing Alexander Sims into third. An attempt to spear inside Sims at the hairpin then sent Marciello wide yet again, putting Pipo Derani into fourth.
Marciello quickly picked off Derani and closed gradually on the battle between Rosenqvist and Sims.
Some sparky defending from the Swede – including an outstanding rally-style opposite-lock slide at the hairpin – prevented the Brit from passing.
That allowed Marciello back into the reckoning though, and Sims was unable to prevent the Ferrari protege from passing him with nine laps to go.
Marciello set fastest lap as he closed on Rosenqvist, but the Mucke Motorsport driver held on for second, although he is at present not classified in the results as he is racing this weekend under appeal.
“For three quarters of the race I was pushing like crazy to pull away from Felix,” said Lynn.
“I could never get it above a second, but I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw him beginning to deal with Alexander. That gave me a nice cushion for when I had to deal with the backmarkers.”
Behind Sims, Derani held off a relentless challenge from Fortec team-mate Felix Serralles for fifth on the road.
Next up, Tom Blomqvist came out top of a EuroInternational/Carlin battle and was chased home by Harry Tincknell, Jordan King, Mucke-run interloper Michael Lewis, Nick Cassidy and Daniil Kvyat.
Lucas Auer, who stalled at the start, recovered to 13th on the road.
Meanwhile, Antonio Giovinazzi and Jann Mardenborough were both penalised with drive-through penalties for jumped starts.
