Dani Sordo took a MINI John Cooper Works WRC for a spin in a bullring in Madrid on Friday night and reckoned his performance outdid the riders taking part in the Red Bull X-Fighters motocross event in the Spanish city.
Sordo, a regular in the FIA World Rally Championship with backing from the energy drink manufacturer, demonstrated a Motorsport Italia-prepared MINI at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas where he performed several stunts and jumps.
“Being the only four-wheel vehicle taking part in the event in the middle of many motorbikes it was great to show the fans some WRC action in a very special and unusual location: a bullring,” said Sordo, who competes for Prodrive in the world championship. “It was pretty amazing to do drifts and donuts to entertain the crowd but the best bit was the jump, which was awesome.”
Sordo used to compete in motocross before he switched to rallying and said he was able to call on some of the skills he learned as a youngster. “I gave those motorbikes a run for their money in my MINI,” said Sordo, who was accompanied by a winner of a competition selected by MINI Spain for the event.
