Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds have been transformed into petrolhead heaven as motorsport fans soak up the sights and sounds of the 2013 CRC Speedshow.

The two-day event – which concludes tomorrow – features a mixture of modified street cars, high-tech V8 racers, race bikes and perfectly restored classic cars.

There has also been a New Zealand Legends of Speed display, featuring the cars and bikes raced by the likes of Bruce McLaren, Burt Munro, Chris Amon and Scott Dixon.

Several thousand motorsport enthusiasts have made their were through the indoor and outdoor displays during the opening day of the expo.

But it wasn’t just fans who were impressed, with leading high-profile New Zealand V8 SuperTourer racer Angus Fogg – who was displaying his own race car – also taking time out to savour the vast collection of cars and bikes.

”We have a little break every now and then and have a look around,” Fogg said.

”Cars are my thing… so every stand is interesting. Anything with wheels is good.

”It is little old New Zealand but they’ve [the organisers] brought in stuff from all over the world. The show just keeps getting better. I just like the interactive nature of it and there’s all sorts of crazy stuff going on outside.”

The stand displaying Fogg’s V8 SuperTourer proved popular for motorsport fans. The former Bathurst 1000 competitor is currently in 16th position after the first three rounds of the 2013 championship, having crashed during the most recent round of the series at Pukekohe.

Positive feedback from the CRC Speedshow has him primed up for round four at Taupo Motorsport Park next month.

”We had quite a bang-up meeting at our last meeting, so it was a good impetus to get our car looking all nice again for the show,” Fogg said.

”We get a lot of good feedback and the sponsors love it. It is a neat show and good to be in front of the public for our sponsors and the SuperTourer class.”

As well as the indoor displays, fans were also entertained by drifting, motorbike and stunt-car driving demonstrations.

Gates open at 9am tomorrow for the closing day.
