The man accused of stealing and attempting to sell to the media the medical reports of Michael Schumacher was found dead in his Zurich holding cell today.

The man who was arrested this week with connections to the theft of Michael Schumacher’s medical records was found dead in his holding cell, according to the Agence France Presse.

The man apparently hung himself after being arrested on Tuesday, being held in a Zurich jail.

The man’s identity was not released, but he reportedly works with the Swiss helicopter company that moved Schumacher from the Grenoble hospital to Switzerland earlier in June.

Selling to the highest bidder

The incident occurred in June, and when the individual sought $67,000 for the documents from media. Prosecutors found the IP address for the individual accused of stealing the documents, which happened to be at Rega, the helicopter company used in Schumacher’s transfer.

Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm said the Schumacher family is deeply shocked by the incident. According to the AFP report, Corinne Bouvard, a representative with the Zurich prosecutor’s office, said they are almost certain the individual’s guilt in this case.

Innocent until proven guilty

“There is very compelling evidence it was he who tried to sell copies of Schumacher’s medical records to different media,” she was quoted as saying.

The documents were never published by any media outlet.
