Justin Wilson has been airlifted to hospital after being struck by debris in a crash late in Sunday’s IndyCar race at Pocono.
The Andretti Autosport driver had gone high to avoid the wreckage created by Sage Karam, who had crashed into the outside wall while leading.
However he hit Karam’s airborne nosecone and veered into the inside barrier.
TV replays appeared to show the nosecone striking Wilson’s car in the vicinity of his helmet.
Emergency crews responded swiftly, and the Brit was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital, with an IndyCar statement saying he had sustained a head injury.
Karam also needed to be helped out of his car, but was later able to walk to an emergency vehicle and was checked at the infield medical centre.
He will be taken by road to hospital for a foot injury to be assessed.
God Speed to recovery. Never like seeing this at all!!!!!!!!!!
Totally agree with Murray’s comments.
