V8SuperTourer driver Angus Fogg has secured the expertise of current Australian Dunlop Development V8 Supercars Series leader Dale Wood to co-drive the PropertyTutors Commodore for the three endurance rounds of the 2013 BNT V8SuperTourers Championship.
Wood’s abilities are in demand, with the 30-year-old also having recently been signed by Dick John Racing to co-drive with rising star Chaz Mostert in the V8 Supercars’ endurance races.
“We are delighted to have Dale Wood join us for our three endurance races which get underway at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park on 28 September,” says Fogg who is looking for a fresh start in the upcoming long distance races.
“Dale has a lot of experience and impressed with a great result – top five in the co-drivers’ race at the recent Sandown 500. It was a real pleasure to see him winning the start and leading for several laps in the first of the high profile V8 Supercar enduros,” Fogg says. “Add in Dale’s current form as the Dunlop series leader and this extra seat time co-driving for DJR’s Chaz Mostert, we’re really looking forward to working with him. There’s even a chance a young gun can teach an old dog a few tricks…”
A former Australian Formula Ford champion, Wood says he’s excited about driving in New Zealand.
“I’m extremely happy to be joining the New Zealand V8SuperTourer enduros with Angus Fogg. I’ve spent many weekends watching them on TV here in Australia and have always kept a close eye on Angus,” said Wood who’ll travel from his home in Melbourne for the New Zealand events.
“The biggest thing for me will be learning the new tracks and slightly different cars to what we are used to but as long as I can adapt quickly to this and fit in with the team, I don’t see any reason why Angus and I can’t be aiming for some solid pointy end results.”
In the lead-up to the BNT V8SuperTourers’ endurance series, Fogg and his team have continued developing and learning how to get the best from the PropertyTutors Commodore.
Fogg says: “We have had a big turnaround with the performance of the car having unearthed a major issue during the last round in Taupo. It turns out the rear shock absorbers were not working as they should have been which explains why we haven’t had the performance from the PropertyTutors Commodore that we expected. We’ve got the problem fixed now so we should be back on form at the next round as Dale joins us.”
The event’s schedule for Saturday 28 September includes two practice sessions and two 20-minute qualifying sessions, one for each driver, followed by the first race of 100 kilometres or 38 laps. Sunday’s action comprises two 150 kilometre races of 56 laps each. Each team can nominate which driver starts race one or race three, with the other driver required to start race two. The starting grid for races one and two will be determined by the nominated drivers’ qualifying times. Race three will grid up using team points earned from the first two races.
