Bathurst winner Steve Richards will line up with up and coming single seater ace Dominic Storey this weekend at the Mike Pero Real Estate 350 – the final round of the V8 SuperTourer championship and enduro series.
Storey (23) was originally listed as one of the first 14 V8 SuperTourer drivers over a year ago, but the deal fell through and the young ace has been sat on the sidelines ever since itching to get back into top line motorsport. He will line up with Richards in the new look ‘Fastway Couriers Falcon’ for the last round of the championship.
“We’re delighted to give him the opportunity,” said team owner John McIntyre. “He’s proved time and time again in other racing disciplines that he has speed and huge potential and it will be very interesting for us as team to see how he goes this weekend. We are convinced he will surprise many people.”
With it out of championship picture John McIntyre Racing has used its second car to evaluate and showcase young Kiwi driver talent. Storey has extensive single seater experience gained running in Formula BMW Asia in 2006, in the Toyota Racing Series in 2007, in Formula BMW UK in the same year, in Formula Renault over three seasons and most recently in British Formula Three. He has also tested Formula Renault 3.5 – one of the last rungs of the single seater ladder before Formula One.
Storey completed a successful shakedown test of the Fastway Falcon at Taupo today before the team packed up and headed down for the series Grand Finale at the Powerbuilt Tools Raceway, Ruapuna, which takes place this weekend.
It’ll be a big weekend for the Fastway Couriers brand, with McIntyre’s co-driver Jono Lester dovetailing his driving duties in the team’s number one car along with a drive in a Fastway Couriers-backed Porsche in the final three hour South Island Endurance Series round which is one of the major supporting events for the V8 SuperTourers.
