New Zealand single seater ace Chris van der Drift is to partner Tim Edgell in the Edgell Performance Racing Holden at next weekend’s Pukekohoe International 500.
Chris (26) has been based in Europe now since the beginning of 2003 and raced every season since, from Formula BMW, Formula Renault 2.0, World Series by Renault 3.5, GP2 Series, Superleague Formula and now for 2012 AutoGP World Series. Despite his career having blossomed in Europe he remains well known to domestic race fans following his stint in the Team new Zealand A1GP car in the formula’s final season.
In nine years of karting he was New Zealand champion 12 times and was then ready to make the transition to car racing. Chris competed successfully and became Champion in Formula BMW, Formula Renault 2.0 and International Formula Master despite a lack of budget.
He will get his first taste of the Chesters V8 SuperTourer at the Pukekohe circuit on Friday.
