NZV8s has appointed Wellington based Speedtech Motorsport (STM) and Link as the official provider for parity management and the engine ECU system for their new generation cars.
The top tier NZ touring car category’s technical working group researched the options and decided the NZ designed and made Link was the appropriate choice for the class.
In the same vein, STM were the natural choice when it came to installing the engine management system and dyno tuning. STM owner/director Andre Simon is well known and respected within the motorsport community, both in NZ and internationally.
STM will install a special edition Link ECU into each new generation NZV8 along with a custom wiring loom. The aim is to achieve 2% power parity between each race car.
This is no mean feat considering the diverse range of engines STM will be required to tune. The Tulloch Motorsport Holden VEII is currently at the STM workshop – the ECU installation is nearing completion and will be ready to begin testing later next week.
The Toyota Camry of Richards Motorsport (Paeroa) is close to being completed at Mitchell Race Xtreme’s (MRX) Hamilton workshop and will be ready for the engine management system installation soon after that.
The new generation NZV8s championship has been opened up to allow any manufacturer to run their own V8 engine and body with the NZ-built space-framed chassis. This means STM have a challenging job on their hands, but one that the team is ready for.
“We’re excited to be part of a new era of touring car racing in NZ”, Andre said.
“We’ve had the Tulloch Motorsport car in the workshop for the past week, the car itself is beautifully prepared and once we have the ECU installed and dynoed it will be ready to race. We’re looking forward to working with the series this coming summer season and seeing what these race cars can do.”
NZV8s Chairman Ian “Inky” Tulloch commented “Andre has proven himself already in the motorsport world, so for STM to be involved in our championship series is a real boost for us. We know our parity programme is in safe hands.”
The NZV8s championship series runs throughout the 2012/13 NZ summer and will visit the majority of race circuits throughout NZ – from Teretonga in Invercargill to Pukekohe, Auckland. There will be two MotorSport NZ Gold Star Championships up for grabs – one for new generation NZV8 cars and one for the current models as seen in previous seasons.
