The final day at Hidden Valley ended on a high for the team at Freightliner Racing. Fabian claimed another front row start for today’s race and everyone had their fingers crossed that the first corner would go a lot smoother than the prior races this weekend. Fabian got another brilliant start off the line and soon as the lead was taken he moved swiftly to the left to get around that first corner in first position.
From there Fabian held the lead and was making ground on the group behind him. With a couple of cars pitting early it saw Andre Heimgartner re-group just in front of Fabian, he made it tough for Fabian to pass as this would result in him going a lap down. Forcing the Freightliner Racing Commodore into a lunge, Fabian took an excursion off-track for a brief moment, opening the door for David Reynolds and Chaz Mostert to pass.
Fabian then pressed on with the job at hand. With twenty laps to go and all cars completing their pit stops it was a dash for the finish. The top 3 were at times only a second apart, and with the soft tyres loving the new track surface they were doing their job well. It was a close finish for the three with Reynolds ultimately winning, followed by Mostert and Fabian.
FABIANS WORD
“I was coming out of turn one and saw Andre was front of me. He didn’t make it easy on me considering he was going a lap down, I was forced into a lunge which put me off the track.”
“Our Freightliner Racing Commodore was very strong and if you look at Brad Jones Racing as a group to have three cars in the top ten is a solid end to the weekend.”
“After yesterday it was great to reward the boys with a podium, it was a long night for them fixing all the damage for yesterday and getting the car back out there today as good as new.”
“There is a little feeling there of what could have been, but any of the three top cars had the potential to win. It was tough out there and the pace was really fast.”
“There are some new things we’ve learned from this track and we look forward to coming back to the NT again next year.”
