Craig Lowndes is off to the best possible start at Mount Panorama, recording the fastest time in the first practice session of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The first of the day’s three practice sessions, Mark Winterbottom and Jason Bright/Andrew Jones followed in the 50-minute session, which allowed for all drivers to run in the car.
All main series drivers began the session, though most co-drivers jumped in with minutes to go, ahead of the afternoon’s co-driver only Practice Two.
Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander and Fujitsu GRM’s Scott McLaughlin were at the top of the times early, and Tim Slade and David Reynolds were the first to record times in the 2min10s.
But it was Lowndes, who holds the practice record of 2min06.8012 from Bathurst 2010, who ended the session at the top.
Rounding out the top five were David Reynolds and Jamie Whincup, followed by Will Davison, James Moffat, Dean Fiore/Matt Halliday, Tim Slade/Andrew Thompson – meaning all four makes featured in the top 10, and Scott McLaughlin/Jack Perkins in the chrome livieried Fujitsu GRM car.
Others to note include Andy Priaulx in the Xbox One Commodore 12th, Chaz Mostert in the Greens’-Tuf car 14th, Tander 16th, Fabian Coulthard 18th and James Courtney 22nd.
