Leading home Craig Lowndes, Scott McLaughlin’s 0.7sec gap meant a 10-point gap in the event points for the Volvo driver.

The 20-year old – who also won the final race at the Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix last year – took home the trophy on the world stage after the fourth and final race of the event.

The race was double points, reflecting the new Formula One format, and while Shane van Gisbergen looked to have a stranglehold on the event, his fellow Kiwi McLaughlin was the one who got the job done.

Michael Caruso – his Nissan wearing a special beyondblue livery for this event – made it home third, after an amazing last lap pass on Garth Tander, drag racing the HRT Commodore to the line.

Fabian Coulthard, who started on the front row and had a huge battle with van Gisbergen on the opening lap, finished fourth in the points by just one point.

And the Team TEKNO VIP Petfoods driver fifth.

Tander improved over the weekend finishing sixth – the top six were separated by just 52 points.

The first Ford in the order was Mark Winterbottom in seventh, with former teammate Will Davison right behind in his Mercedes-Benz Erebus AMG.

Others to note include Jamie Whincup 11th after being taken out in the final race, and Jason Bright 17th after suffering from a delaminated tyre and number of dramas across the four days.

The V8 Supercars are back on track from March 28-30 at the Tyrepower Tasmania 400.
