Scott McLaughlin has scored his third ARMOR ALL Pole Position for the year, he and his Valvoline Volvo to start from p1 for this afternoon’s 200km race on his home soil.

McLaughlin sat at the top of the times for the majority of the 20-minute qualifying session, continuing to better his own times until the 1min02.9914 lap.

He was the only driver to edge into the ‘02’ bracket – though an amazing 0.58sec was the difference across the field.

A late dash cemented Tim Slade’s starting position on the second row – the Supercheap Auto driver will be looking to put yesterday’s bad luck behind him.

Yesterday’s race winners line the second row of the grid, with Shane van Gisbergen to go head to head with Mark Winterbottom off the line.

Chaz Mostert and David Reynolds follow, making it a strong showing for FPR.

Michael Caruso, Jamie Whincup, Todd Kelly and Rick Kelly complete the top 10, Nissan also with three of its four cars up the pointy end.

First Erebus in the ranks was Lee Holdsworth in 11th.

Look further afield for James Courtney in 13, Fabian Coulthard 14 and Craig Lowndes 15.

Lowndes was beached in the sand at turn 10 with under a minute to go in the session, which continued to run.

Holden Racing Team reported Garth Tander had already headed into the pits expecting a red flag – but one didn’t come, and he will fight the battle from 22nd later today.
